Vanted 2.6.4 retrospective

It's that time of the year, when you reflect on it and plan your so called resolutions for the next, so I guess this comes in timely. If still unaware, Vanted's newest version was officially released on 11th December and you can get it from here.

So, what is so special about it? Well, initially nothing - it was thought of a compact update, whose mere purpose was to aid the Vanted migration all the way down from Australia, yet it turned into a lot more. Frankly, the more suitable version in terms of the implemented functionality would have been 2.7, but the time I realized that, we were in alpha testing... Time-wise, there was a bit of a stack overflow. Much time went into implementing the new core High DPI Support feature, which was first coined back in mid-January. Anyone, who has used Swing applications on a 4K display or above, will know that icons, text, views, etc. look extremely tiny. Well, not anymore for Vanted, more at Bridging the 4K Gap (to come). The roadmap for this feature is to be put out shortly as a library on its own, since there is no such solution out there in the wild. So, stay tuned!

Looking back, I am glad of the outcome and believe it will truly help Vanted users. I learned a ton in the process and completed my first full release cycle - from conception to deploy. Lastly, I want to express my gratitude towards all my collegues, who were always ready to discuss and help, as well as all users with their input.

Welcome to my very own blog. What to expect: occasional mind wanderings beyond mundane life regularity or just things I find interesting. Hopefully, you would enjoy reading it :)

Note: These on the left are little basebots, you might come accross them at times.

Congratulations! You've gotten to the bottom of it, or the very beginning, it depends.
